Hum in Seymour Duncan SH4 Humbucker in bridge position in Strat?
I recently got a Seymour Duncan JB SH4 model humbucker installed in my Fender Stratocaster in the bridge position. Ever since, there has been a very loud hum whenever it’s set to the bridge pickup. The other pickups have always had a bit of a hum, but there’s a lot more on the humbucker. Is there any way I can fix this?
If a humbucker is humming badly I’d say it’s either wired incorrectly or one of the coil windings is open and it’s been wired in a parallel coil configuration. If you wired yours in series for power I’d say it’s wired incorrectly so the noise in each coil is summing instead of canceling. Pay close attention to the color codes on the wires. The pickup coils have to be wired a very specific way so electromagnetic noise is out of phase and cancels but magnetically induced signal is in phase and sums.
